On Thursday, May 1st, a public holiday, members of the University of Ghana Medical Students’ Association took a purposeful break from their regular routines and headed to the Kokrobite Chiltern centre for a special outreach program — a day filled with care, compassion, and connection.
The visit formed part of UGMSA Week 2025, and in line with our theme, “From Bump to Birth and Beyond,” we focused on supporting the health and happiness of vulnerable children and families.
In collaboration with MOMIC 24, we organized a comprehensive health screening for both the children and members of the surrounding Kokrobite community. The screening covered:
• Vision checks
• Dental screening
• Blood pressure checks
• Blood sugar tests
• Hepatitis B testing
• ENT screening
Those in need of further care were appropriately referred, ensuring that our impact would extend beyond the day itself.
While the adults benefited from the health services, the children enjoyed a joyous carnival atmosphere. The grounds were filled with bouncing castles, dancing competitions, musical chairs, and lots of laughter and games. It was a space where these wonderful children could simply be kids.
To crown the joy, FanYogo generously donated 600 pieces of yogurt, bringing excitement to the little ones — many of whom danced gleefully while holding their treats! We also served pastries, popcorn, and lemonade, creating a cheerful, fair-like experience for all.
