UGMSA Collaborates with Yale for Groundbreaking Global Health Convening

The University of Ghana Medical Students' Association (UGMSA) recently partnered with Yale University to host the inaugural Global Health Dignity Convening. This pioneering conference brought together renowned global health leaders, scholars, and community actors to foster collaboration, education, and networking.

Putting Communities First in Global Health

Held under the theme "Putting Communities First in Global Health: The Role of a Health Professional," the convening featured a stellar panel of experts, including:

- Dr. Shadrack Osei Frimpong, Entrepreneur & Global Health Leader, Founder of Cocoa 360 & Mundaly

- Dr. Kezia Malm, Public Health Consultant, Program Manager, Ghana Health Service

- Dr. Emmanuel Odame, Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation, Ministry of Health

- Prof. Alfred E. Yawson, Physician and Public Health Practitioner

- Dr. Elijah E. Paintsil, Professor Adjunct in Pediatrics, Yale School of Medicine

- Sten H. Vermund, Former Dean, Yale School of Public Health

Empowering Future Generations of Global Health Leaders

The Global Health Dignity Convening is a unique initiative that aims to advance dignity in global health through education and networking. By bringing together Black in Global Health Fellows and other stakeholders, the program seeks to empower future generations of global health leaders by fostering a collaborative environment that enriches medical education.

Raising Awareness and Promoting Effective Partnerships

The convening focused on critical issues in global health, including the need for effective and dignifying partnerships between industry, academia, and communities in the Global South. Through panels and interactive sessions, participants explored ways to address saviorism and paternalism in global health, promoting a more equitable and dignified future for all.

A Resounding Success

The Global Health Dignity Convening was a resounding success, attracting a diverse audience of students, professionals, and community leaders. The event provided a platform for meaningful discussions, networking opportunities, and capacity building, setting the stage for future collaborations and initiatives.
